MAKANA - 70 x 145 x 145mm - OOAK Day Octopus Sculpture with separate Agate base

Makana the Day Octopus (Octopus cyanea) is made from strong, flexible clay over a wire armature. The sculptures arms retain a degree of mobility and flexibility which help ensure longevity.

This sculpture includes a gemstone (agate) base, the sculpture is not attached and can be freely placed as desired. Approximate dimensions of the gemstone are: 15 x 11.5 x 2.5cm / 6 x 4.5 x 1".

Features a fully balanced unique pose, a smooth curvy composition and detailed paintwork with metallic pigments that create both warm and cool tones.

This piece comes alive and changes beautifully under different lighting situations in its environment: placement will be an important factor to enjoy this artwork to the fullest extent. 

A space with ample natural lighting will work best. A spot where the golden hour reaches will truly make this sculpture shine.

All eight of the octopus's arms are fully sculpted with two rows of suckers. Which, for this art piece, amounts to approximately 1000 suckers, patiently formed by hand and carefully applied and posed. 

No effort was spared to fully depict this clever hunter's twirling arms, the sculpture stands upright and leans on three of its arms in a complete balance.

The Octopus cyanea is known for being active during the day, being able to excavate dens in sand and reef rubble, and being a master navigator. Observed behaviors indicate these octopus possess an advanced visual map.

This is a free standing octopus sculpture, it fully supports itself and can be displayed anywhere but preferably in a stable temperature & humidity, dust-free environment such as a case or display cabinet.
