"Halcyon" is a hand sculpted Nebula Octopus, created from strong yet lightweight, flexible clay over a wire armature (skeleton.) The sculpture's arms retain a degree of mobility and flexibility which help ensure the longevity of this artwork.
This sculpture was gradually developed and created over the course of four months, and features a fully balanced unique swaying pose -- as if flowing with invisible currents. The octopus has an overall well balanced composition that is interesting from all sides, and detailed paintwork with metallic and color-shifting pigments that create both warm and cool tones.
This piece comes alive and changes beautifully under different lighting situations in its environment: placement will be an important factor to enjoy this artwork to the fullest extent.
All eight of the octopus's arms are fully sculpted with two rows of suckers. Which, for this art piece, amounts to ~900 suckers, patiently formed by hand and carefully applied and posed.
This is a free standing octopus sculpture, it fully supports itself and can be displayed anywhere but preferably in a stable temperature & humidity, dust-free environment such as a case or display cabinet.
The base plaque is included with this piece. The octopus is not attached to it and display on this base is optional but recommended.
