AURORA - 180 x 205 x 305mm - OOAK Caribbean Reef Octopus Sculpture - Sculpted and Carved Glow in the Dark Pedestal

Aurora the Caribbean Reef Octopus (Octopus briareus) is made from strong, flexible clay over a wire armature. The sculptures arms retain a degree of mobility and flexibility which help ensure longevity.

This sculpture includes a handmade, sculpted and carved pedestal base. The sculpture is not attached and can be displayed on its own. It sits securely and well balanced on the base.

Features a unique pose, a playfully spiralling composition and detailed paintwork with bright tones of fluorescent green around the eyes. The octopus has a base of deep Tiffany blue with a warm reddish brown pattern that turns toward a dusky maroon on the arms. The whole work is brightened by a metallic / pearly sheen worked into the base colors.

This piece comes alive and changes under different lighting situations in its environment: placement will be an important factor to enjoy this artwork to the fullest extent. Preferably a spot with cool toned lighting such as near a north facing window or in an office with daylight lamps (ideally, a color temperature of 4000k or higher.)

All eight of the octopus's arms are fully sculpted with two rows of suckers. Which, for this art piece, amounts to approximately 1200 suckers, patiently formed by hand and carefully applied and posed. 

The Octopus briareus is known for being a shallow water octopus, most active during the night, having relatively large eyes and being a uniquely blue / green color and iridescent appearance. During the day it will hang out in a den. They do not regulate their food intake, which is instead controlled by factors such as water temperature and the abundance of preferred food.

This is a free standing octopus sculpture, it is able to support itself and can be displayed on the pedestal or on its own. It is highly recommend to keep it in an area with a stable temperature & humidity, dust-free environment with low traffic.
